HEP SLC CAMP Conference

Event Overview

The NMSU College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) is dedicated to offering meaningful leadership development opportunities to its students year-round. While only a select few may attend esteemed national events like the USHLI Conference, CAMP remains committed to ensuring that all scholars benefit from leadership training at the local and state levels.

One of the program’s signature events is the annual HEP CAMP Student Leadership Conference, created specifically for migrant students within CAMP. This conference introduces participants to a variety of leadership pathways and features insights from university officials, community leaders, and professionals who share similar life experiences.

Understanding that cultural enrichment is an essential element of comprehensive leadership growth, the conference planning team intentionally weaves in opportunities for students to celebrate their heritage. This year’s agenda included a self-guided tour of the historic Santa Fe Plaza, where students explored the vibrant Hispanic culture and traditions of New Mexico.

The HEP CAMP Student Leadership Conference offers a supportive space for students to envision and pursue their educational and career goals. Just as significantly, it fosters a deep sense of pride in their cultural identity and emerging roles as Latino leaders. By merging leadership development with cultural exploration, CAMP empowers its students with the confidence and tools to lead with purpose and authenticity.
