Eligibility

More information on the eligibilities for the CAMP program can be found below.

To be eligible to participate in CAMP you must:
  • Be accepted to NMSU through the Office of Admissions (if accepted to CAMP, admission fee will be waived).
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

AND meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Student has worked, or has at least one immediate family member* who has spent a minimum of 75 days during the past 24 months as a migrant or seasonal farmworker, OR
  • Has participated in the Migrant Education Program (K-12) while in school and has a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), OR
  • Has participated or is currently eligible to participate in the Department of Labor Employment Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

AND

  • Is not beyond the first academic year of a program of study at an institution of higher education.
  • Has been determined to need the academic and financial assistance provided by the program.


*For purposes of eligibility, the term “immediate family” means:  1) A spouse,  2) A parent, step-parent, adoptive parent, foster parent or anyone with guardianship, 3)  Any person who claims the prospective participant as dependent on a Federal Income Tax Return for either of the previous two year, or resides in the same household as the participant, supports that individual financially, and is a relative of that individual.

Participant Responsibilities

More information on the CAMP student's responsibilities can be found below.

  • Maintain enrollment as a full-time student at NMSU, complete designated course work at a level acceptable by NMSU, and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.
  • Meet with CAMP Academic Adviser on a monthly basis for Individualized Educational Planning.
  • Attend and participate in CAMP workshops and student activities.
  • Attend weekly mandatory Study Sessions.
  • Complete and submit on time all CAMP paperwork required upon admission and throughout the year.
  • Enroll and successfully complete two CAMP courses, UNIV 110 (Personal Learning Skills) and UNIV 112 (Academic Personal Effectiveness).

  • Scholarship: $1,500 per semester
  • Meal Plan assistance: $800 per semester
  • Textbook stipend: $250 per semester
  • Peer mentoring and tutoring
  • Involvement in celebrations, cultural events, and NMSU activities
  • Career assessments and exploration, and career readiness preparation
  • Retention services for graduation purposes
