Jonah Madrid

Biography
My name is Jonah Madrid and I am a graduate student here at New Mexico State University studying Mechanical Engineering. During undergrad I double majored in mechanical and aerospace engineering with a minor in physics. I grew up in Hatch, New Mexico a small town about half an hour north of Las cruces. Hatch is an agriculturally based community where a majority of its residents, including myself, work in agriculture. It was here that I sustained an injury to my left hand, and it was here that I was given the opportunity to attend NMSU. CAMP is a federal and state funded organization providing scholarships to students like me since 2002. The majority of these students are first generation college students. I myself am a second-generation student as my single mother attended NMSU and completed her bachelor's in education.
Through CAMP I was exposed to many other organizations which have helped me develop a passion for research and teaching. CAMP allows students like me to chase our dreams and accomplish goals never thought possible. My current research is done in the environmental testing of structures laboratory at NMSU. We focus on subjecting structures that could be implemented into different vehicles to vibration testing. Aside from my work at NMSU I have done research at three national laboratories those being Los Alamos National Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
