SLC Conference 2024

Event Overview

The NMSU CAMP (College Assistance Migrant Program) is committed to providing enriching leadership development opportunities for its students throughout the year. While a limited number can attend prestigious national conferences like USHLI, CAMP ensures all scholars have access to leadership training locally and statewide.

A hallmark event is the annual HEP CAMP Student Leadership Conference, designed specifically for CAMP's migrant student population. The conference exposes attendees to diverse leadership paths and firsthand perspectives from university representatives, community leaders, and professionals who have overcome similar backgrounds.

Recognizing that cultural enrichment is a critical component of holistic leadership development for migrant students, the conference planning committee thoughtfully incorporates activities to celebrate students' heritage. This year, they organized a self-guided tour of the historic Santa Fe Plaza, allowing students to immerse themselves in the rich Hispanic culture and traditions of New Mexico.

The HEP CAMP Student Leadership Conference provides a safe environment for CAMP scholars to explore educational and career opportunities aligned with their goals. But just as importantly, it cultivates pride in their cultural roots and identities as emerging Latino leaders. By blending leadership training with cultural experiences, CAMP equips its students with the confidence and skills to blaze new trails.
